Television is a powerful medium for influencing and educating young people if they watch appropriate programming. The programs you and your child can find on the web sites noted in this section help your child grow intellectually and developmentally. Many programs can also serve as beneficial "family time."

This site provides programming information as well as educator’s guides for CNN Presents: Classroom Edition, which include discussion questions and activities. The site also provides a daily teaching guide for CNN Student News, which includes a program rundown, discussion questions, curriculum pointers, new terms, related links, as well as additional information.

There are many educational shows & channels on television as well as many web sites to go with them. This site provides information and links to lesson plans & ideas to help teachers cover various topics. This page is dedicated to helping teachers find the programs they can use in their curriculum & to find out when the programs are on.
History Channel, The
The History Channel shows ways to make television programs from the History Channel exciting and useful in the social studies curriculum. The site contains program scheduling information and a weekly History Channel Quiz.
KIDSNET
KIDSNET is dedicated to children's television, radio, audio, video and multimedia. KIDNET'S goal is to help students view television intelligently and to develop multimedia literacy. Resources available include the KIDSNET monthly Media Guide that lists current programs on public, commercial and cable television for children, families and educators. KIDSNET also provides Study Guides for use in conjunction with various programs.
Nickelodeon Teachers
This site offers a variety of resources including an impressive collection of lesson plans, general activities, and specific activities that link directly to programs on Nick Jr.. Each activity includes a teacher’s guide, lesson plan and teaching materials. Particularly worth checking out are the more than 150 excellent lesson plans for each episode of Nick News.
PBS Kids
This site contains a list of links to information on PBS TV kid’s shows, including the time to watch them on more than 300 local PBS stations. The site also provides a wide variety of activities such as games, stories, music and the Coloring Book, which has many printable pages of favorite PBS characters.
PBS TeacherSource
Teachers can register at this site to receive a useful e-mail newsletter including an update of upcoming PBS programs with suggestions and links to educational materials. There are also in the newsletter ideas of how to use the programs in the classroom.
