Starfall is an excellent website for working on phonics.

Spellingcity is a great way to practice each week's spelling words.

This website is a good place to visit to practice reading the stories we read in class.  Students can also work on areas of weakness when they enter their username and password.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Welcome to first grade!  Please make sure your child is reading for 10-15 minutes a night to practice fluency and comprehension.

During our language arts block we are working on digraphs, beginning blends, ending blends, and vowel sounds.  While reading with your child please practice these skills to ensure they will be ready for their weekly tests.  We are also working on reading and writing with sight words.

In math we are working on counting and number sense.  The students are learning to count to 100, use a hundreds chart, and count by 2's, 5's, and 10's.

Chapter 6 in science is about weather and seasons.  The students will make weather books and season books.

Finally, in social studies we are learning about needs and wants.  The students will be able to differentiate between a need and a want and understand that we have jobs as a means to obtain those things.

Please remember to check your child's home folder every Friday.  A weekly report will be sent home detailing how your child did for the week as well as homework turned in.  This weekly report needs to be signed and returned every Monday.
