CLASSROOM HOMEWORK Homework is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experiences in school. It is an integral part of learning because it is the medium by which students take the concepts taught in class and digest them. Students cannot learn by merely acting as a sponge, absorbing information; rather, they need to take new information and actively process it. Only in this way does new information gain meaning for the student. In addition to homework as a means of practice and internalization of concepts, the act of handing homework in when it is expected teaches students to be responsible. Also, students must use organizational skills in order to consistently meet deadlines. We feel that parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, we ask that parents make homework a top priority, provide necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, set a daily homework time, check assignments and assignment notebooks daily, provide praise and support, and contact us if they notice a problem. |
|
FOR THE ACTIVE, SUCCESSFUL CLASSROOM: We hope that students will be excited to come to class and therefore should be prompt, prepared, paying attention, and positive |
