CLASS INFORMATION

In the Art room,students work with a variety of media, processes and techniques.They learn to use the elements of art and principles of design to create their artworks and express themselves. Students learn about art history and art criticism while discussing great artworks from history and creating and critiquing their own artwork.

4th Trimester 2012

Eighth grade students are expected to come to class prepared with pencil, eraser and their sketchbook. The sketchbook is used for homework assignments as well as planning and preparing sketches, drawings and ideas for class assignments.

Students may also use their sketchbook for drawing on their own to obtain extra credit. Extra credit is given if regular assignments have been completed and turned in to Mrs. Zavala.

 

Week of February 6th :

  Students are completing their painting and following up with a reflection artist's statement. All vocabulary and sketchbook journal assignments from the painting unit are due on Tuesday the 7th.

  On Wednesday the 8th, students will learn about different styles of art and learn how to create a mask of their own. Students will need three drawings of ideas for the mask they want to create and will be drawing an expressive self-portrait and costume design.

  Thursday is Parent - Teacher Conference. Mrs. Zavala will be here at Northlake from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. After 6:30 p.m. she will be at Riley for conferences until 8:30 p.m. Please come to see what your Eighth Grader is  doing in Art class.

CLASSROOM HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework makes up part of the Art grade.

     Homework is given weekly and is due by the end of the week unless noted that it is due on a certain date.  The sketchbook is used for homework assignments as well as planning and preparing sketches, drawings and ideas for class assignments.
