MUSIC OBJECTIVES, WEEK OF MAY 14th, 2012
KINDERGARTEN
Sing in rhythm, maintain a steady tempo, respond to music with purposeful movement. They will practice counting in a song. Clap the word rhythms of the days of the week. Clap the word rhythms of the days of the week. Play the rhythms on instruments.
FIRST GRADE
Students will move with the steady beat at different tempos to represent different animals in a song. Sing and respond to melodic direction. Students will understand the musical dynamics of piano and forte. They will add movements to accompany the songs.
SECOND GRADE
Students will sing and move to show pitch movement. They will identify when a melody moves upward, downward, or stays the same. They will play a pattern of pitches using the notes G & E to show melodic movement. Identify the notes on the staff.
Read quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests. Sing and move to show pitch movement. Define notes, pitch, and staff.
THIRD GRADE
Students will show that they can play the note "A" and that they understand the values of quarter notes, half notes, and whole notes. They will play a song using "A" and these three types of notes. Identify direction of melody as upward or downward.
FOURTH GRADE
Evaluate the lyrics of a song. Find connections between social studies and music. Show meter in 4 through movement. Identify different genres of music. Show the difference between strong and weak beats. Add instrumental accompaniments using the notes A and D. Identify half notes, half note rests, whole notes, and whole note rests and their values. Students will learn about 20 different genres of music. They will learn a brief history of each style and learn how to identify each style when they hear a sample of music.
FIFTH GRADE
Show steady beat and different tempos by singing and playing rhythm instruments. Sing a song from Jamaica in two parts. Classify music by style, genre, composer, and title.
