PencilCLASSROOM HOMEWORK POLICY

We believe that homework is an important part of the school curriculum and must be done on a regular basis in order for children to grow and learn. Every student will be receiving approximately 20 minutes of homework each school night in addition to 30 minutes of reading. Work is expected to be done the next day unless there are EXTREME circumstances and the parent/guardian has written a note explaining what happened. If this does happen, the child is expected to turn in the homework within one school day. The student will receive a grade of “zero” in the grade book until the homework is turned in.
If a child is absent from class, he/she is still expected to complete the homework that was assigned. Your child’s teacher will work with the student to fill him/her in on what he/she has missed, but he/she is responsible for completing it in three days. When an extended absence occurs, the teacher will discuss missing work with the parent/guardian and decide dates for turning those assignments in.
Each student has an assignment notebook that he/she fills out everyday there is school. Your child is responsible for writing down his/her assignments correctly. We strongly encourage the parents to check and initial the assignment notebook everyday. If your child does NOT turn in an assignment on the date that it is due, they need to complete it and turn it as soon as possible. If the assignment is one day late, the highest grade it can receive is a “C”. If it is turned after that, the highest grade it can receive is a “F” (60%). This is only fair to the students who turn their work in on time.

Homework that you might see in your child’s folder:
Reading: Your child will be receiving a reading log every Monday.  Please make sure you or your child fills the reading log out and returns it to me Thursday morning.  Your child is not expected to bring it to school everyday.  You can leave it at home until it is due on Thursdays.
Spelling: There will be a spelling worksheet every night, please remember that there will be a Spelling Test every Friday.
Math:  Every night your child will receive a math worksheet.  It will be a review of what we learned that day in class.
Science and Social Studies: On occasion your child will have Science and Social Studies homework.  The night before a chapter test I will be sending home a review/study guide home for he/she to complete.

CLASSROOM POLICY

As a class, we have discussed the rules that we will follow. They are as follows:

1. Follow directions when given.

2. Stay on task; work quietly.

3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

 4. Come prepared for class.

 5. Respect yourself, others, and everyone's property.

I will be using a color-cubed system to keep track of when as student breaks a rule. The students will start each day with no cubes on their desks. When a rule is broken, the following will happen:

1st time:  verbal warning
2nd time: the child will lose 5 minutes of recess and if they are being disruptive, they will move away from the group they are working in (receive a yellow cube)
3rd time: the child will lose 10 minutes of recess, (receive an orange cube)
4th time: write a reflection note home to their parents explaining their behavior, and if they are being disruptive, they will move away from the group they are working in, (receive a red cube)
5th time: notice of the behavior is phoned home and a conduct report is filled out

Severe Disruption: Students will immediately be sent to the principal and the parent will be notified. Continual inappropriate behavior will result in earlier parental notification and a possible conference.

Positive Recognition: Students who behave appropriately will be rewarded with special privileges, praise, positive notes, stickers, free time, and/or special class activities.
