Transition to Hybrid - New Student Schedule

Transition to Hybrid - New Student Schedule
Posted on 01/11/2021

The following information is important for ALL families, whether you have selected Hybrid or Remote.

HYBRID MODEL TIMELINE
Our Hybrid Model will begin with the first of three phases on Tuesday, January 19th. The phases will be as follows for those students who have chosen the Hybrid Model:

Phase 1: Tuesday, January 19th: Kindergarten, 3rd Grade, and 6th Grade On-Site
Phase 2: Monday, February 1st: 1st Grade, 4th Grade, and 7th Grade On-Site
Phase 3: Monday, February 8th: 2nd Grade, 5th Grade, and 8th Grade On-Site

By taking a phased-in approach, we will help our students who are newest to each building acclimate and learn the proper safety procedures prior to bringing in each subsequent group of students. Please note that Phase 2 and Phase 3 are subject to change as we review our procedures from Phase 1.

HYBRID MODEL SCHEDULE
Based on the survey results from December, 31% of our families have chosen to transition to the Hybrid Model. We originally anticipated having to use a rotating schedule each week. However, with the lower than expected Hybrid enrollment numbers, we will be able to provide a 5-day per week schedule (excluding non-attendance days for all students). These days will be on-site in the morning and then dismissal to return home for lunch and remote learning in the afternoon. Meals will be provided in a grab-and-go format at all schools.  Families participating in Remote Learning can pick up meals from 9:30-11:00 a.m. and 12:30-1:00 p.m.

Any changes to our enrollment may impact the District’s ability to follow this schedule. Therefore, we will only allow changes from Remote to Hybrid based on classroom availability, as well as transportation considerations.

Due to the unique needs of this model and the requirements for busing, the District will be making a shift in the daily schedule for our students. The new times for ALL students in both Remote and Hybrid beginning Tuesday, January 19th, are as follows:

8:45 a.m.

REMOTE PLANNING DAY
This year, all schools have been given the use of 5 Remote Planning Days. District 87 has used 3 of these days so far. The next Remote Planning Day will be Friday, January 15th. Students will not have classes on this day. The final day will be used later in the year.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS
In order to successfully transition to this Hybrid Model and remain open for students to learn on-site, we require all parents/guardians to follow all health requirements on a daily basis. We ask that students who are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19, including a temperature greater than 100.3 degrees Fahrenheit, stay home, and participate in remote learning. Students will be required to wear a face covering at all times while on-site. Additional reminders about the importance of these guidelines will be shared with all families who have selected Hybrid Learning.

Each family has made the best decision to meet their child’s learning needs. An update to the Berkeley Blueprint: A Guide to Reopening Schools (located on our District website in the Return to School section) is now available for all families to carefully review. Adherence to these expectations will help us ensure that we can continue to provide these learning options for all students.
