SHIELD Testing (Optional) As part of a layered approach to COVID-19 mitigation strategies, District 87 will be offering weekly COVID-19 testing for students. This COVID-19 testing is called SHIELD testing. Families have been asked to sign up for SHIELD testing through Skyward Family Access should they wish to participate in this testing. You can view directions on how to complete the SHIELD consent form here.  Families can also fill out a paper SHIELD Illinois Student Consent Form (English / Spanish) and turn it into their school office. Below are links to additional resources explaining more about SHIELD testing.

Student COVID Symptoms Information (Expired)

What happens if a student has Covid-19 like symptoms during the school day?

If a student exhibits symptoms during the school day, two options are available:
The parent/guardian will be asked to pick up their child from school and take the student for a PCR COVID test and provide the results to the school district. A negative PCR test will be needed in order to return to school before ten days. Siblings of the symptomatic child will be allowed to stay in school while results are pending as long as a PCR test is administered within 24 hours of symptoms starting.

As a service to our students (if there is a BinaxNow Antigen Test consent form on file) we will call parents and confirm that we will provide the student with the rapid BinaxNow COVID test. After the results of the test, which is available within 15 minutes, the parents/guardians will be notified to take appropriate actions.

Students with positive results on the BinaxNow Antigen Test will need to be picked up immediately and self-isolate for ten days following symptom(s) onset.

Students with a negative result on a BinaxNow will need to have a PCR COVID test administered by an outside provider to confirm the negative results and submit results in order to return to school.

The parent/guardian will be asked to pick up their child from school and take the student home for a minimum of ten days AND until fever-free and COVID-19 symptoms have subsided. Siblings of the symptomatic child will need to stay home as well. (Cook County Department of Public Health is not accepting negative rapid antigen tests or Doctor’s notes for alternative diagnoses as a reason to return to school with Covid-19 symptoms).

What happens if a student has COVID-19 like symptoms at home?

1) Call your child's school with detailed information about the student's symptoms
2) Provide the reason they are missing school
Please indicate whether your child has tested positive for COVID-19, has been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 or if your child has any of the following  symptoms: Fever, Cough, Diarrhea, vomiting, Difficulty breathing, Headache, Muscle pain, New loss of taste or  smell, Sore throat
